See Our Weekly Schedule
The start of a homeschool journey can be a very daunting experience, especially when you have zero experience or jave no one to learn from.
It was no different for us when we launched out earlier this year (April 2019). I remember feeling like 'I wish i could have someone sit me down to take me through the entire process.
After deciding on a curriculum, the next big thing was 'our school schedule. Well, depending on what curriculum you are using, you may or may not have a daily school schedule outlined for you.
If you happen to be looking for scheduling inspiration for your homeschool? Here's what our weekly schedule looks like; in addition to monthly fieldtrips and activities planned once every month of the school year.
Our 2nd grader is 6years so in designing this schedule, we tried to put as much breaks in as possible to be able to grab his attention. Some days have been challenging since this is our first year; so there's still quite a bit of adjustments to be done. But we’re remaining flexible and at the very least getting our core work completed each day!
Our 2nd grade schedule is as follows:
- 7:00am – Breakfast / Family Devotions
- 7:30am – Calendar / Circle Time (Previous day journal, activity reviews & school room prep)
- 8:00am – Bible Studies
- 8:30am – Phonics & Language
- 10:00am – Reading & Check 'Home / Seatwork'
- 10:30am – Snack Break
- 11:00am – Cursive Writing, Spelling & Poetry
- 11:45am – Arithmetic
- 12:30pm – Lunch
- 1:30pm – Group Reading (myself + the boys together)
- 2:15pm – Arithmetic Combination Practice
- 1:30pm – Break
- 2:00pm – Activity Time (Science / History / Art
- 2:30pm – Piano (3x per week)
- 3:30pm - Close
As you can see we do most things on a daily basis right now. Normally I alternate History and Science so we’re doing them 2x per week, but this year’s Abeka curriculum requires daily work.
